ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A SAD FATALITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Tuesday. Nurse Lila Rood, aged 21, died in the hospital as the result of an accident sustained several weeks ago whilst playing with a child. She slipped on some concrete steps and fell, breaking her thigh. THROWN FROM A HORSE. Nelson, Last Night. A lad named William Makison, aged 12, was killed at Motueka on Sunday by being thrown from a horse. Deceased was a visitor from Westport. MATE INJURED IN ROUGH WEATHER. Wanganui, Last Night. The three-masted schooner Maroro arrived from Sydney to-day after a voyage of 22 days. L;ast Sunday week, when off Cape Farewell, the Maroro was struck by an exceptionally heavy sea, which severely injured the mate, James Hannan, aged 72. Fortunately, no bones were broken, but Hannan had a narrow escape from going overboard. He is still incapacitated.
