OPERATIC SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The third annual meeting of the New Plymouth Operatic Society was held in the Town Hall last- night. There was a good attendance and a number of new members were .proposed, so that the', outjook for the coming season is promising. Mr. J. S. S. Medley, the chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, stated that although the last season from a musical and dramatic point of view had been highly successful, from a' financial point qf view things were not what they should have been. Thanks were specially due to the; two daily papers for the way in which they had assisted the society, both through their advertising columns and in other ways. Although at the close ot the last season it looked as it "the society would be in debt, he was pleased to say that they were able to start a fresh year with a balance in hand. He s took occasion to thank those who had so generously assisted the society, especially Mr. A. M. Bradbury, who had paint- ' ed the whole of the necessary scenery for their production. On behalf of the, society, Mr. Medley

then presented Mr. Bradbury with a solid silver asparagus dish as a slight token of their esteem and recognition of his 1 valuable services to the society. Mr. Bradbury, in reply, said that "what he had done was for love of the work, and! he would always, be pleased and willing to assist in future. Mr. Renaud, the conductor, and Miss Warren, the pianistj were also recipients of cheques. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Dr. Leatham; President. Hon. 0. Samuel, M.L.C.; vice-presidents, Messrs. Henrv Weston (and V. H. Chaney, Dr. Walker; secretary, Mr. B. McEwen; treasurer. Mr. Ef. Bayly; conductor, Mr. R. N. Renaud; pianist, Miss E. Warren; acting-stage manager, Mr, P. J. Heatley; business manager, Mr. H. Collier; management committee, the president, conductor, stage manager, business manager, Messrs. E. Bayly, J. R. S. Medlev. W. A.' M. Bradbury, and Mrs. Dell, Misses Buckmann arid A. B. McEwen.
