At a social tendered to Mr. Mason, an unsuccessful Littoral candidate for , Otago, at Middlemarch last night, the following resolution was submitted by Mr. Mason and adopted with enthusiasm, "That this meeting desires to express its appreciation of the great services rendered to the Dominion by Sir Joseph Ward in his legislative and administrative capacity during the last 20 years, more especially as the leader of the Liberal-Labor party, and that no act more became him than the unselfish and! patriotic - resignation or hi® high position with the object of furthering the political principles and policy that he has so long championed. We desire to place on record our regret that circumstances have compelled him to take this course, solely in the interests of the party of which he is the leader, and also are gratified to know that Sir Joseph Ward will remain in the Dominion, and give the course of liberalism the benefit of his great abilities, foresight and ripened judgment."
