CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

QUARTERLY MEETING. A meeting of the New Plymouth Chamber, of Commerce was held last evening, Mr. S. Shaw presiding over a good attendance of members. THE MAIN SOUTH ROAD. The chairman reported that a deputation from the Chamber had waited on the Taranaki County Council with reference to improving the Main South road in order to make it suitable for motor traffic. The deputation had, he said, been favorably received, the Council promising to go into the matter. Mr. | Shaw added that Cr. McAllu'm had since brought forward a scheme with regard to the electrification of the road. It ! was, the speaker thought, an ambitious j proposition, but he had little doubt that if it was carried out it would prove a j very good one. The Taranaki and Egmont County Councils, could very well deal with the matter at the present juncture. When they had settled upon a scheme there was no doubt /that the Chamber would be very pleased to do all it could to support it in the way of bringing pressure to bear upon the Government, or in other ways. Meanwhile it was not the business of the Chamber to interfere..

Other questions which were dealt with appear in other columns under separate headings.
