(Conducted by "Eileen.") NEW PLYMOUTH. SOCIETY NEWS. Afternoon Tea.—As a farewell to Mi as Colson, Mrs. Penn gave a very enjoyable "kitchen" afternoon tea last Tuesday. A competition was indulged in, which resulted in Miss Brewster receiving the prize. Then followed the unwrapping of the mysterious parcels (by the guest of honor), which had previously been placed in a large open basket as we entered the hall. Peels of laughter and much talking followed, by which one could easily judge it was a "Hen Convention." The hostess received her guests in a white embroidered muslin. PERSONAL ITEMS.
Misses P. and M. Evans returned from Wellington by the mail train last night. Miss Devore, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. E. George, for some weeks, has returned to Auckland. Miss V. Brett, formerly of the New Plymouth telephone exchange, but now of Auckland, is relieving Miss Fabian, of the local staff, for three months, while the latter is holiday-making in Wellington.
Miss R. Nixon, who has been the guest of Mrs. Hempton, sen., has returned to Wellington.
Mr.. Mrs. Miss Bewley left last night by the Rarawa for a trip to Auckland.
Mr. Gideon Pott, of tlie Bank of New Zealand staff, who has been holidaymaking in Auckland, returned yesterday morning by the Rarawa.
