GENERAL TELEGRAMS

DISCOVERY OF STOLEN MONEY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Friday. An extraordinary sequel has occurred to the robbery from the corporation strong room in September last of between £SOO and £6OO. The police are still without a clue as to the perpetrator of the burglary. By a curious coincidence the find was made on the day when Donaldson, a youth formerly employed by the council, and who was acquitted on a charge of stealing, is standing his trial for alleged theft of Rugby Union funds. PASSING A GILDED FARTHING. Auckland, Friday. At the Police Court, Henry Watson and George Croul were committed for trial , for having passed a gilded farthing to a cabman for a half-sovereign, paying their fare and receiving eight shillings in change. The City Council last night refused to accede to the request by ex-Inspector Fuller that_ the council should pay the law costs ineurred by him in connection with the charges laid against by the Tramways Union, amounting to £l7 17®. Henry Alexander and Annie Alexander, his wife, who were alleged to have kept liquor for sale, also to have sold liquor in a no-lieense district, was resumed today before Mr. Day, S.M.
