PROPOSALS OBJECTED TO. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Thursday. "The Hospital Board proposes to spend •£20,000 on an administrative block of i buildings < and sketch plans were ap- , proved some time ago. Dr. Valintine, in a recent conference with the committee of the Board, objected to the buildings as too big for present needs, and suggested that some thousands might be sa,ved by the Board. At its meeting to-day , one member of the I Board expressed pleasure that the Government had stepped in to prevent "scandalous extravagance." The Board decided to ask Dr. Valintine to meet it next week. ' / , WEST COAST. COAL MINERS. Westport, Thursday. The conference between the Coal Owners' Association and the delegates of workers in the coal mines have made a mutual agreement. The chief demand of the delegates was an advance from 12s 6d a day to 13s 4d, with overtime. The claim was comprised on the basis of a weekly wage of £4, and a satisfactory agreement was come to. , ESTATE CUT UP. j Feilding, Thursday. 1 Mr. * J. R. MacLennan's Arapata estate, Waituna West, cut in eleven sections of 130 to 540 acres, was sold in Feilding yesterday afternoon. Nine sections were sold for a total <of £48,634, at an average of £l6 an acre. The remaining two ..sections are expected to be sold privately to-day.
