CATCHING A BURGLAR.
A CLERGYMAN'S HELP. _ Christchurch, March 4. An interesting story is going the rounds concerning a clergyman, a farmer and a burglar. Late on Saturday night a clergyman, who is very well known in the city, was driving with an equally well-known farmer along the Lincoln road into Christchurch. They had been attending a church- gathering in the country. Approaching the hoa : pital their attention was directed to two young women, who were evidently in distress, and who stated, in reply* to enquiries, that a burglar was in their house. The clergyman and the farmer, without a second thought, hastened" to the assistance of the distressed women, and whilst the clergyman mounted guard over the front entrance to the house the farmer stalked his prey from the back door, and finally ran him down in the bathroom. After some resistance the man was securely bound. The police were sent for. Upon the arrival of the police the suspect was carried off to the lock-up and appeared at the Police Court this morning.
