NEW ZEALAND'S BISLEY.

REMARKABLE SHOOTING CONTINUES. I I l LOVEDAY WINS THE CLARKSON £ i CUP. * I AND LEADS FOR THE CHAMPION l] BELT. ROOTS WINS THE TARANAKI ( MATCH. ; i, By Telegraph—Press Association. ' Trentham, Last Night. To-day was a busy one on the Trentham rifle range, as in addition to' coai- , pleting the preliminary stage of the championship, the Champion Teams , Match, United Service Match, and an '4 extra mutch at 1000 yards have been | fired. It has also been a day of aggre- : gates, the Bisley aggregate, which carries with it the Clarkson. Cup, the King's fifty and the service aggregate having to be made up. Far more important to | the majority of competitors was the varying positions of the leaders in the aggregate. Proceedings opened with the Hawke's Bay Mat*h, at 900 yards. Loveday, who was tieing with Atkinson -in the lead, put on 49 here, and shook off his oppon- j ent, who only made 44. Masefield, Milroy and Banks were close in the running. In the match Clark of Rangltikei, got. the possible despite a mirage, four men i ju3t missed the possible, and 4<3's only' just got in a programme of 50 prizes. I The Taranaki Matck, at 1000 yards,! the last in the King's series, was fired i immediately afterwards. Again the scores were closely watched. The light was flickering as the youthful Loveday | started in the first bateh. There was a crowd at his board. The weight of th ■ , lead was evidently playing upon him, ai 1 '■ he got 40. The word immediately went round that the shooting was difficult, , and all along the mound men broke up ',' badly. Wood (Christchurch) planked on a 49. Soon after Roots, the 1911 cham- : ; pion, planked on 50, but it was too lata ] to be any good to him, except to raise! him a few places in the aggregate. Atkinson only got 36, which spoilt his i chance. Masefield got 47, which placed I him next to Loveday, but with a gap of six points. Guy (Kaponga) put on 49, but it did not disturb the aggregate, which left Loveday with a ten to one] J chance for the Belt, for it is doubtful if ] * any man in New Zealand can give him 1 six points in ten shots at 1000 yards. j In the afternoon the Champion Teams j Match was fired. Twenfy-two teams*! started, but, owing to a misunderstand- j ing as to the time limit at 300 yards, by which they lost fire shots, the New Plymouth team retired. Other teams suffered severely, also losing up to five shots. At this range scoring was very good, victory resting with the Opaki team, who put up 484 and therefore win the handsome district challenge shield. I > The highest individual scorer was Chirn- \ side (Karori), who put up 101. Duthiei . (Christchurch) and Laking (Blenheim) both scored the coveted century. The Rifle Clubs' championship, for teams of five men, was won by the Christchurch Rifle Club (Wood, Saadford, Duthie, Henry and Reynolds). ! The United Service Match, for teams of 20 men, representing rifle clubs and territorials, at 300, 500 and 600 yards, was fired, after the Teams Match, and was conclnded hi darkness. The TerriR torials won by 34 points, and are holders E of the Dawson Shield for the year. The soores were: Territorials, 1715-' Rifle Clubs, 1681. The best individual scorer was Masefield 98.

To-morrow morning the Service Championship, for the highest 60 in the Service matches, will be taken, and at 3 o clock the King's Match for the Ballinger Champion Belt, at 1000 yards, will be fired.
