COAL MINING.

OWNERS MEET IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of the coalmine owners, representing the West Coast, Auckland and South Island collieries, was opened in Wellington to-day. The proceedings are private. The business before the owners was principally the matter of the substantial increases in wages and improvement in working conditions asked for byxhe men in the recently formulated demand. It was decided by the mine-owners today to appoint a delegation of their number to proceed to the West Coast and there confer with the working coalminers' representatives with respect to their demands, with a view, it is understood, to some modification of them.
