TERRIFIC EXECUTION
TURKS AND ARABS MOWN DOWN A FORT CAPTURED BY ITALIANS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 1, 9.40 p.m. Rome, March 1. It is officially stated that the occupation of Margheb was accomplished by the Italians. The latteV secretly assembled at daybreak, and-in silence advanced to the foot of the heights, when a dash was made for the position held by the Turks and Arabs, who made a desperate resistance until a bayonet charge killed the majority of the defenders, including the Turkish commander and an Arab chief. An hour and a half after the commencement of the fight the Italians were entrenched on the heights. Five hundred Turks and Arabs attacked these positions throughout the day. The Italians replied with murderous fire from their machine guns and artillery at point blank range. There was terrific execution, the enemy being driven off, five hundred Arabs being killed.
