EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 1. Yesterday's rain storm was extremely violent, 4.10 in. falling in a few hours. For a portion of the time rain fell at the rate of five inches an hour. All the thoroughfares were conveying raging torrents, and the damage was extensive. A passenger tramcar at Darlinghurst was struck by lightning and knocked off the line. The car suffered severely from the. shock. During a cloud-burst at Capertee, near Lithgow, a thousand tons of rock were washed from the mountain side, and blocked the railways and roads. Trucks and coalskips were buried or swept away, the, floors of houses were covered with silt to a depth of several feet, and two bridges were carried away.
