NEW PACIFIC CABLES. London, February 28. • The Pacific Cable Board has accepted the tender of the Indiarubber and Guttapercha Telegraph Works Company to construct and lay a cable from the neighborhood of Sydney, probably Bondi, to Auckland, and also to bring the Norfolk Island cable to Auckland instead of Doubtless Bay. It is expected that both will be completed about Christmas. HARLAND AND WOLFF. London, February 28. Messrs. Harland & Wolff, of Belfast, have purchased the London and Glasgow Engineering Company's yard at Govan. AN INCOME TAX CASE. London, February 28. Tho Court of Appeal upheld the deicision in the Income Tax Commissioners' case v. the London, Liverpool and Globe Insurance Company, that interest earned . abroad, though not remitted to the head office, was taxable as the profits of the company. A JEWELLER ROBBED. Vienna, February 28. Loevi, a jeweller travelling on the Paris express, was robbed of £IO,OOO I worth of pearls and diamonds, which | were fastened inside his pocket.
