ASSOCIATION OF ACCOUNTANTS. | By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. At the annual meeting of the New : Zealand Accountant and Auditors' Association, the report showed that there was a strong membership. The sound finances justified the policy of the continuance of the existence of the association. Officers were elected as follow:—President, It. Wilberfoss (Wellington); vice-presidents, Gr. Holloran (Auckland), H. Baily (Taranaki), J. Port (Wellington), A. Virtue (Canterbury), C. Statham (Dunedin), and W. Ott (Southland). The next annual meeting will be held at Christchurch. ■ i OPENING TELEGRAMS. Wellington, Wednesday. A young man named Thomas Henderson was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with opening ten telegrams sent to Thomas Phillips, commission; agent, containing racing results and dividends. It is alleged that Henderson paid the telegraph messenger small sums to take telegrams' to him first. He opened them and then mealed them with stickers which the boys brought from the telegraph office. Henderson was committed for trial. A NARROW ESCAPE. _ , Gore, Wednesday. At Otamita this morning Mr. Cross was driving a motor care to Gore with his mother as passenger. It is thought that the pin came out of the steering gear and the car became unmanageable. It went down a steep bank, but was not capsized, 'as it was almost pulled up when on the edge of the bank, which crumbled. The car turned turtle, but the passengers and car were saved by soma willows. The people were unisi jured.
