AUSTRALIAN TARIFFS.
MANUFACTURERS' DEMANDS. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Sydney, February 28. ■The presidential address at the Manufacturers' Conference complained of the absence of a complete revision of the tariff. The recent amendment was inadequate, and must affect wool, which, as a staple industry, will diminish appreciably. Coal and metal deposits will eventually work out, but agriculture and manufactures on the contrary will constitute the basis of future prosperity. For this reason should New Zealand conserve her manufacturing area. The great market of the Pacific must have a stimulus on maritime carrying enterprise. UNIONISM CONDEMNED. BY MANUFACTURERS. Received 28, 10.40 p.m. Sydney, February 28. The Manufacturers' Conference adopted resolutions against preference' to unionists, which was a pernicious system, meaning coercion and interference with the liberty of the subject. They also passed resolutions in favor of the encouragement of private enterprise. Several speakers condemned Government competition.
