MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

CIVIL CASES. Sitting in his civil jurisdiction at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, Mr. A. Crooke, H.M., gave judgment for the plaintiff by default in the following cases:—Hooker Printing Company v. J. . Hodgson, 8s 6d and costs 6s; Wm. Rowe v. J. W. Price, £ll lis 2d and costs £1 10s 6d; F. Aroa v. R. S.Hedgland, £lB 15s 8d and costs £1 10s ■Od; Burgess, Fraser and Co.. v. John Powell, £26 14s 9d and costs £2 14s; Newton King v. T. M. Wititi, £l6 3s and costs £1 16s 6d. Mention was made of the case of Anton Henrick Hanson v. Rahotu Dairy Co., Ltd., claim £32 2s, Mr. Johnstone, who appeared for the .defendant, stating that he had received telegraphed advice frqm plaintiff's solicitor that he was desirous of the case being stiuck out. Plaintiff made no appearance, and owing to a technical point as regards the venue, the case was adjourned to the first sitting of the Court at Manaia. ; '/ W. "Skipworth appeared in answer to a judgment summons of £4 6s 4d, preferred against him by a fisherman named Jones. Defendant, who is at present j working for wages, at Is per hour, adJ mittel contracting the debt at Eltham, while in business as a fishmonger, but denied his ability'to discharge it at present, his earnings for some tame past having only average 35s a week. The case was adjourned until March 12, defendant being ordered to produce receipts showing what, payments he had made since October 3>l last, together with-a correct statement of the monies he had received. Hearing was continued in the adjourned case of Arthur William Cowling against the bankrupt estate of A. C. Vincent for the recovery of £l9 Is under ■ the Wages Protection and Contractors" Act. Plaintiff, who was defended by Mr. A. R. Standish, is a laborer, living at Omata, and his claim Was made up of wages at the rate of '3os a day, 'alleged to be, due for his own services and those of his team of horses. The case was adjourned from the last sitting of the Court in order to enable a witness (Vincent) to be present. He, however, made no appearance yesterday, and Mr. j Johnstone, solicitor for the defence, said | ke would therefore not call any evidence. > After legal argument. the case was furj ther adjourned till March 12.
