' I HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. j Wellington, Last Night. ! The House met at 2.30. Replying to Mr. Buxton, the Premier . said that he was in full sympathy with , the tariff revision proposals promulgated ; by Mr. Fisher, Premier of the Common- ' wealth, but that the present was not the time to make a definite statement in connection with the matter. He would say, however, that he was fully impressed i with its importaaoe. ABOUT A DEPUTATION. Sir Joseph Ward informed the House that the statement appearing in the press and wired from Christchurch, that he had given a deputation on the Defence Act Borne secret information, was absolutely sntrue. What occurred was that a deputation had waited on him to interview him on the subject. He informed them that in view of the fact that a no confidence motion was being debated, he did not desire to receive the deputation. He did not object to a private chat, and all that occurred the press were certainly at liberty to distribute from one end of the country to the other. There was absolutely nothing secret. Three other members of Parliament were present, viz., Messrs. Laurenson, Robertson, and Payne at the interview, and these gentlement rose and bore out what the Premier had said.
