SPOTSWOOD SETTLEMENT.
To the Editor. Sir,—No doubt you will admit that there is a great future before this place if it is properly administered by the Land Board for the benefit of the people. As things are now, it appears that a few people are making a strenuous attempt to exclude others from making a home at Spotswood, by playing the good old Conservative game of "collar all the land that you can lay hands on." I presume that when the Liberal Government in 1002 purchased this estate it was for the specific purpose of providing land for workers' homes and not for the purpose of making a few milk runs, as some wish to do. What are the coming workers at the oil works, ironsand works and harbor works going to do if this fine estate is to be parcelled out to the few! No doubt ere long all of the (at present) unoccupied land at Spotswood will be eagerly eouglit after by the workers, as the land is offered at a much lower rati; by the State than adjacent land owned by private persons. I sincerely hope that the Taranaki Land Board will keep a watchful eye upon this settlement for the benefit of the greatest number of people.—l am, etc., WORKER.
