OUR WINTER SHOW.
To the Editor. : i . Sir,—The committee of the Taranaki J Agricultural Society has for months and years, past worked hard to bring, thi Winter Show right up-to-date and to make it one of the best fixtures in New Zealand. We have now come to the j point where every resident in town and country should feel it their privilege to lend a helping hand for the finishing j touch. The King George's Hall (one of ] the best in New Zealand) will be ready in good time fpr the sth of June. The Government's great agricultural exhibit which has been the great attraction at j other shows i& promised, people in town and country are preparing exhibits, His Excellency Lord Islington has promised to open the new hall and show combined, and everything points to a most unique function in the history of Taranaki. It is now for our people to rise to the occasion, and between now and March 10, to subscribe £3OO cash. This will en-, able the society to secure the Coronation' subsidy of £260, towards the building fund. If our people will only see the great importance of this work, in attracting yisitors' and settlers to the district, visitors and residents to the town, educating the young people, and denronstrat- . ing to the world the possibilities of our own country, the money part of the 1 scheme will be quite easy. A circus comes along for one evening and takes more out of the district than we ask for. Irving, comes along and in a two hours' performance takes right away from the town and district half the amount we ask for. The circus has gone and no one much the better, Irving has gone and a few people have had possibly an intellectual treat, King George's Hall will be an acquisition to the town and- a standing monument to agricultural industry for 40 years maybe, and everyone should do their "little bit." I would point out this fact to the public, that only one appeal will be made by the bo- ! ciety this year for funds, and I sincerely hope the public will encourage the committee in their efforts by a contribution worthy of the district. The subscription lists are in the hands of a large tee, representing town and country, but I hope all who have any interest in the progress of Taranaki will send along their donations to the- secretary right now. Be they ever so small or ever so large, they will all help. DO IT NOW.— I am, etc., W. AMBURT.
