MAGNIFICENT FINISHES. >, Received 26, 1,10 a.m. Melbourne. February 25. Thirty thousand witnessed the final of the eix days' cycling race. Seven teams remained in, and yesteiday morning six were level. and Bell, of Germany, were a lap behind. The latter, after 141 hours' riding, failed to recover ,the deficit, and retired. There was .splendid sprinting'in the last stages. Hehir headed ' Gascoyne past the 2000 miles' mark. In the last three lap sprint* Goullett made a wonderful effort and just managed to beat Lawson, with Clark close up thirdi Goullett and Hehir (International) were first, Lawson and Mitten (America)' second, Clark and McNamara (Australia) third, Walker and Grenda (Australia) j fourth, Gascoyne and Lloyd (International) fifth.
The distance covered was 2026 miles, against. 2086 miles/in the Sydney race, Which was won by the same team. -
