FIGHTING IN TRIPOLI

The Times has reason to believe that Britain supports Italy's views regarding the right to utilise Eritrean troops. ENTHUSIASM IN ITALY. Received 25, 5.5 p.m. Rome, February 24. The Chamber of Deputies, amid enthusiasm, ratified the annexation of Tripoli by 423 to 9. There was a popular demonstration bi-fpre the Chamber, and at the Quirinal the King and Miinsters received an ovation.
A BIG BOMBARDMENT. TOWN IN PANIC. MANY CASUALTIES. Received 26, 1.10 a.m. Constantinople, Febuary 25. Messages state that Italian warships -demanded the surrender of the Corvetty, Avnillah and a torpedoer. Before a reply could be given they were bombarded. Neither was-under steam. The Customs House and harbor buildings were damaged, and the bombardment ci'eated a panic. Many fled to Lebanon, and others were forced to refuge in the armoury, where they armed themselves. Some disturbances occurred in the
town. Altogether fifteen were killed and a hundred wounded. WARSHIPS FOR BEIRUT. Received 26, 1.10 a.m. Rome, February 25. It is semi-Officially reported that the gunboat Volturno and the warship Garibaldi have been sent to Beirut to destroy. two warships, which are facilitating the shipment of contraband and endangering transports. Instructions were given that Beirut is not to be bombarded.
