Received 25, 5.5 p.m. London, February 14. Mr. Lloyd George, speaking at the ■uffrage meeting at Albert Hall, said Uutt the Government would carry the Reform Bill this year. He was prepared to accept the responsibility of the Woman's Suffrage Amendment Bill if it *as incorporated therein. He objected to toe referendum as being too costly and likely to undermine Parliament's authority and frustrate justice. t'u * W<SMAN'S SUFFRAGE. CHANCELLOR AND WOMEN BANDY WORDS. Received 25, 5.5 p.m. London, February 84. At the suffragette meeting in the Albert Hall there were many interruptions on all sides.
l|r. Lloyd George at first treated interjections lightly, but later replied with sharp retorts, the speech sometimes resembling a dialogue. He said the reason the Government had not incorporated women's suffrage in the Reform Bill was beeanse neither of the two great parties were united on the subject. Threefourths of the Liberals, including twothirds of- the Cabinet, supported woman's suffrage, whereas three-fourths of the Conservatives were opposed to it. "There never was a time," he continoed, "when the nation stood more in need of the special experience and sympathy of womanhood in Government affairs, on suth pressing questions as homing, dearer food, education, intemperance.'? - The franchise must be based on broad and democratic lines, similar to those of the self-eoveraing colonies.
