The appearance of Miss Rosina Buckman in her native town after her achievement of a definite place, in vocal art is an occasion of some moment. It has to be ■emphasised that Miss Buckman is a brilliant artist and one of Taranaki's few contributions to the artistic world. Miss Buekman does not appeal solely .on account of her voice or its production, but because she is temperamentally capable of infusing life and emotion into her work. A number of years ago, before Miss Buckman had by study and experience increased the value of her gift, it was patent to those able to artistic-* ally discriminate that this singer possessed an unexplainable vocal charm that would win her artistic victories. Since then hier application' to the divine art has wonderfully enriched it. The test of a singer's power is not in her ability to appeal merely to the musically educated critic, but to the whole of the public. This is the end and aim of all true art—to please the people. On Wednesday evening, Miss Buckman will sing to the people of New Plymouth, and it is hoped tW, the people will confirm the judg- '■ t that she has vocal poweTg of app •:■'. of a very special kind.

"The Double Event" was shown to a full house, last evening and tho fine picture was again accorded a hearty reception. To-day at 2.30 the usuo! matinee will be held, when "The Double Event" wijl be shown for the last time to a New Plymouth audience. To-niffht at 8 o'clock, "Tli;p: Double Event" and a full supporting programme, ably assisted by Mr. Alf. Boothman, will prove a strong attraction for the Waitara public in St. John's Hall.

At the Empire a complete new programme of the very latest successes of the motion picture world will be on yiew. « THE TWO ORPHANS."

Next Wednesday the management announce another great attraction in Selig's great dramatic masterpiece. "The Two Orphans." Thg film is 3500 ft. in lengtk, and has just been shown in Wellington and Auckland, where it created a furore amongst the amusement patrons in each tow».
