Chinese supporters of the Republic and the Manchus had a pitched battle at Atherton. stones, bottles and other missiles being used. Several were in jiiied on each side before the police, intervened. Reinforcements for the Republicans hiive left Cairns for Atherton, some having previously purchased revolvers and ammunition. The police are taking steps to preserve the peace.
