ENTERTAINMENTS

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. "THE DOUBLE EVENT." Even greater than the opening night's audience was the'huge crowd that sought to .gain admission into the Efflpire Theatre last evening. The fame of "The Damble Event" had widely spread about the town during the day, and there were hundreds eagerly waiting'for the nightshades to obtain a view of this, the greatest picture attraction ttiat has ever visited New Plymouth. To say that the audience was enthusiastic is , putting things mildly, and for once a local Audience forgot its »sual calm indifference and wildly cheered and clapped event after event throughout the story, and at the «onclusion even Mr. Boothman's powerful voice was lost in the wild outburst of applause. Long will "The Double Event," with all its thrilling and exciting scenes, remain fresh in the memories of last night's audience. The; film was produced by the Australian Photo Play Company, and it is pleasing to know that we in the Antipodes can produce cinematograph Alms that equal, nay, excel, in quality the work of the American and Continental companies. The story has been fully explained, and the book widely read, therefore we need not again traverse the thrilling adventures of Jack Drayton, his faithful servant, Ike Thurton,_ and the gallant steed, Galoola. Sufficient to say, however, that whoever misses this great production; will miss one of the finest entertainments of their lives. The supporting pictures to the Double Event" are worthv of a place on the Empire programme, which is saying a lot, Pathe's Gazette 147 is as usual a highly interesting number, whilst the comic and dramatic pictures are all of a very interesting nature. As "The Double Event" is booked well ahead, it will be impossible to show this picture after to-night. WAITARA-ST. JOHN'S HALL. Waitara residents are notified that The Double Event" will be shown in bt. Johns Hall to-morrow night, at the usual prices of admission.
