OMATA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A Meeting of the school committee was held in the Omata schoolroom on the evening of Monday, February 19th, when the following members were present:— Messrs. Minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the following correspondence was read: From the Education Board re capitation, re children attending music lessons, re Miss Hoby's appeintment as assistant teacher, re Miss Wells' appointment as assistant teacher; from Brooker and Keig re stationery, etc. A lengthy discussion took place regarding the school picnic, and'finally Mr. E. C .Meredith proposed, and Mr. E. George seconded, that the picnic be held at Ngaere on Friday, March 8, if a sufficient number are in favor of going, and that the committee meet on Thursday, February 22, at 8 p.m. to finally decide.— Carried.

Proposed by Mr. Matthews and seconded by Mr. Ramsbottom that Mr. Meyenbeig be authorised to procure the necessary dumb bells and clubs—Carried. Aceounte amounting to £7 5s 5d were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.

The garden party held at Omata Park on Thursday, JVbruary 15, proved a decided success. The takings amounted to £3O, which is to he divided between the English Church here and the Seamen's Mission, Auckland. There were races of all sorts, tug-of-war (married t. single, won by the former), weight-guessing of sheep, Aunt Sally, bran tub, and last, but decidedly not least, a baby show. There were plenty of opportunities of getting rid of one's money at the produce and fancy stalls, and if they failed to tempt there was an excellent afternoon tea. Business was good in all departments and enjoyment was the order of the day. After all was over a committee meeting was held, at which votes of thanks were passed to all who had contributed in any way to make the function a'success." Special thanks were due to Mr. and Mrs. J. Honeyfield for the use of their property for the garden party and their house for the eommittee meeting.
