LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was held yesterday. The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr. Billiard) was in the chair, and members ■resent were Messrs Heslop, Rattenbury, M'Cluggage and Kennedy. Mr. Heslop welcomed Mr. Bullard as Commissioner, and while congratulating him upon taking up the position, expressed regret, at the sad circumstances that had rendered the appointment necessary. Two applications were received for land, one from O. Blowes, for the o.r.p. of section 14, block 14, Opaku, 219 acres 3 roods, and the other from W. J. Townsend, for the R.L. of section 3, block 2. Totoro, 265 acres. Townsend's application was not entertained, and in "regard to Blowes' it was decided to defer his application until next meeting in order to enable him to inspect the land. TRANSFERS.
Transfers were approved in the following instances:—Anna Dons to James Savage, section 33, block 2. Omona; A. W. and A. P. Wood to Leonard Sutton, section 11. block 3, Omona, and sections 2, 3, 5 and 27, block 3, Omona; H. C. Copheadto William Gill, subdivision 2, section 68, block 14 t Pouatu, with a recommendation that the applicant convert land to freehold; A. Scrivener to A. Scrivener'and "E. 11. Pochin, section 8. block fi. Totoro; W. F. Taylor to J. R. Cioohetto, section 27, block 2, Huiroa,; J. R. Ciochetto to H. Harrison, section 2, block 4, Opaku; C. A. and A. Zurcher to W. Lowe's application to transfer section 5, block 13, and section 3, block 14, Upper Waitara, to R. H. Phillips, it was decided to consider the request when it is put in nroper order.
SUB-LEASES. The following sub-leases were approved :-G. E. Wilson to E. McLoughlin, section 4, block 10, Pouatu; A. C Manto A. E. Lichtwark, section 4, block 4 Huiroa.
APPLICATIONS FOR LEASES. Leases were granted to the following improved farm settlers:—W. T. Humphrey, section 3, block 14, Ohura; T O'Shca, section 19, block 4, Totoro:' Jas' Dempsey, section 1, block 5, Totoro GENERAL.
The Under-Secretary for Lands forwarded a copy of a communication received from the Under-Secretary for Public Works asking to have the rents of certain leases reduced on account of land taken for the Stratford-Kawakau rail-way.-The Board decided to amend the titles as desired.
A plan of the deviation of the Kohuratahi road through section 4, block 16 Pouatu, was laid on the table.—lt was resolved to amend the title accordingly. Thomas in which to register the transfer to G. H. Smith of sections 2 and ll.blocfe C, Aria. for Public Works submitted a tracing, of parts of W G I'argm's sections, 18 and 20, block l' « ??' 7~ lch Were r^" for the Mratford-Ongarue railway and the Whangamomona police station.-The Board decided to leave the matter in the Commissioner's hands for the meantime Six months' leave of absence from secion 13 block 9, Totoro, was granted to li- C. iWest.
Messrs Wesson and Weston, solicitors, appealed on behalf Jf Joh n Morgan against the forfeiture of section 16, block 1, Tanptn.-Mr. Morgan waited on the wTI ? f the *W*d, and it was deeded that the previouYmotion be rescinded, and three months' extension of time was granted in which to take his wife and family on to the land. Twelve months' leave of absence from section 23, block M, Huiroa, was graced to M. Tjrquhart, who is leaving the Dominion for some time a, TT R i NGERS ' REp ORTS. Mr H. T. Twiss, Crown lands ranger, reported having resumed possession of %?^\ 4 '™°£ 3) U PP er Waitara > forfeited by W. T. Jennings. It was resolved that the land be offered for sale or selection under part 3 of the Land Act, 1908. Mr. Twiss also reported on section 255 Huirang, district, and the Board decided to request the Railway Department to provide access to the land at the crossing of the railway line. The application of J.
