WORK AND WAGES.

AN ORGANISER'S PLANS,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Friday. Mr. Semple, organising secretary of the Federation of Labor, will leave next week for Australia, to arrange an understanding with the coal miners and waterside workers of the Commonwealth.

THE GREYMOUTH DISPUTE.

Greymouth, Friday. After protracted sittings, the Wharf Laborers* Union, till yesterday afternoon, had agreed to insist on three demands: (1) Payment of 3s 6d an hour for all work done after 5 p.m. on Saturday; (2) no work between midnight and 7 a.m. for three months during winter except at 3s 6d per hour; (8) payment of 3s an hour when dealing with explosives. Subsequently a motion was passed that the union executive confer with Mr. Semple and the Federation of Labor with regard, to further negotiations, voting being by open show rcf hands. It is practically certain that from this out the union will swim with the Federation, and that one of the causes of the present trouble was the desire to get the union into the Federation at all costs. It is understood Mr. Semple advocated interviewing the Union Co.'s general manager with regard to future negotiations. This course was adopted, and under the circumstances no further movement is likely under a fortnight. The local representatives of the ship, ping companies have not been further approached;.

THE BOOT TRADE.

Wellington, Last Night. The representatives of the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers and the Boot Operatives' Federation met again to-day in order to consider wages and working conditions. It is understood that the conference has terminated without any agreement having been come to. The matter will now engage the attention of the Conciliation Commissioner.
