YESTERDAY'S RESULTS.
By Tekgrapk—Pr«e* A«e»*satiop, Gisborne, Last Night ' At the North 'lsland band contest today,. in the E Flat Bass solo, the judge admitted that the many competitors had set him a hard task, and it had been a case of splitting straws to arrive at a correct decision, and the result was as follows:—P. Johnstone (Gisborne City) 48 points, 1; M. Codyre (Westport Garrison) 47, 2. M. Hale (Westport Garri-' stn) 46, J. Baxter (Waihi Federal) 46, W. Penhall (Wanganui City) 45, H. Cal. kin (Whangarei Municipal) 45, E. A. ' Parr (Whangarei Municipal) 44, C.. Webster (Gisborne City) 44, F. Meath (Waihi Federal) 43, F. Tunnisliffe (Wanganui City) 42. This evening the B Flat cornet solo, "At the Break of Day" (Ord Hume), was decided. The judge was somewhat disappointed, however, at the playihg. The following was the result:—G. MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.
*'# Gisborne, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the North Island Band Association was held this morning. The president's report mentioned that th& Masterton, Whangarei and Timaru hands had joined the Association and the Blenheim band, had re- : signed. The eife'cutive regretted that there was not a large representation at the present contest and referring to the clash of'dates', with the South Island ' Association stated that it ,was vunderstood there was a probability of such a mistakei' a°t occurring again, as there '• \ was a possibility of-the South Island. As-' sociation meeting the North Island As-'" sociation with a view to amalgamation, « which wouli} undoubtedly be better for all parties and decidedly in the interest of bands contesting. No application had been made for the 1913 contest, but it was possible,-in the event of amalgama- ■ - tion, that the next contest; would go to the South Island.
The question of amalgamation with the South Island was favorably considered and referred to the executive with power to act; The expense of obtaining music for contests was considered, [and it wfts decided that a nomination fee of 25s be paid six months prior to contests by all ' bands entering, also an acceptance ie*•f 26e.
A motion that the "bands competing at the eontests be allowed to engage outside players, was lost.
Mr. Lojiis Cohen, Wanganui, was ieelected president. The date and place of the next contest was deferred till the amalgamation was disposed of.
