It was decided to put back, as the smoke and fumes were so dense that it was impossible to properly tackle the flr.fi. Working with blankets round their heads and wet sponges over their mouths, the crew managed to check the blaze. Owing to having to use halfburned coal the steamer was unable to make much headway. The fire was still burning on her arrival in port, and the damage is. serious.
