Mr. H. J. Okey, MjP. for Taranaki, JL left for Wellington by the mail train yesterday morning in order to be present at "the opening of Parliament tomorrow.

Mr. Geo. White (Messrs. S. B. White and Sons) returned yesterday from a trip through the Mokau country. Mr. White reports that good progress is being mad® with the survey of the Mokau block. The Governor returned to Wellington yesterday by the Monowai from the north, and will remain during the Parliamentary session. Lady Islington leaves Rotorua on. The Rev. Hone Patahia, assistant superintendent (Native) of the Maori Mission, died at Hokianga on Friday night, aged 56. The deceased clergyman had held the position of superintendent .. for the past six years, and was highly respected by the inhabitants of the district, both European and native. He had been in poor health for some weeks previous to his death.

The Hawera Star chronicles the death of Mr. George Buclcrell, Ngaio Park Farm, Whakamara, at the comparatively early age of 59 years. The deceased was born in Middle Chinnock, Somersetshire, England, and was educated at Taunton College. For seven years he was in the Queens' Own Dorset Yeomanry Cavalry. On his arrival in New Zealand he was in turn manager for his late uncle, Mr. E. 1 'Paul, and Mr. Henry Redwood, father of the New Zealand Turf. Later, he managed for a Glasgow bank 28,000 acres •» at Tologa Bay. About 1860 he bought ; " his Whakamara farm, married, and has >'"■ remained there since.
