AN ANGLER'S PARADISE

FISHING AT LAKE TAUPO. "THE BEST.IN THE WORLD."

The excellent spost in tTout-flshihg now obtainable at Lake Taupo and adjoining districts, particularly at Taupo, is spoken of in very enthusiastic terms by the Hon. J. A. Millar, who arrived in Auckland the other evening, after spending an enjoyable holiday in what is now regarded by many experts as one of the best, if not absolutely the best, troutfishing grounds in the world, ffilr Millar is an enthusiastic angler, and some account of the excellent sport obtained was given by him to a Herald reporter in the course of a chat. "I caught about Bcwt of fish in three weeks," said Mr Millar, "in Lake Taupo, the Waitahune river, Lake Tarawera, and Lake Rotorua. My heaviest day's basket consisted of 36 fish weighing 2601b. The next time I went out I got 31 fish, which turned the scales at 2841b. In all, I caught 11.71 fish, my heaviest catch being 141b, while the average weight was 7 1 /41b. My heaviest fish from Lake Taupo weighed 111b, and the smallest &lb. In Lake Tarawera I got 22 fish of an average weight of 4141b, the biggest being an eight pounder." In referring to the fishing at Lake Taupo Mr Millar said that many anglers from abroad proclaimed it to be the best sport that the world afforded. The quality, as well as the quantity, was all that could be desired. "There are," he said, "no fewer than 01 persons under canvas in one camp at Taupo, and all are fishing. In addition, there are other camps on the shores of the lake and of the Tongariro river, which runs into the lake."
