Already a good number of visiting horses have arrived, and more will come in from South Taranaki, Wanganui and other part?, this morning. Fields promise to be large and racing interesting. A good number of visitors have signified their intention of being present, and there should be a good representative gathering of sporting folk in town tomorrow. Needless to say, the club's custodian has the course and appointments in fine trim. The racing track looks particularly well, and should be very fast on Wednesday. The local horses, Uhlando, Golden Loop, Master Sylvia, Crown Pearl, Royal Arms, Te Roti, Simple Sam, Royal Dragoon and others, have been galloping smartly of late, and with ordinary luck a fair portion of stake-money should remain in town. Piriwai is reported to be galloping in good style, and should pay his way.
Sir Geo. Clifford is to be commended for his early scratching of Counterfeit for the Wanganui Cup. It is a foregone conclusion that the brilliant filly would not be seen at the post with the burden of 161b over weight-for-age.
