The punitive expedition, which is { searching for the murderers of Thomp- j son and Shoesmith, who were massacred 1 in April; was attacked by natives. They replied with rifle fire, killing seven and wounding three. It is supposed that the attackers belonged to the tribe for which the expedition was searching.
