SALVAGING A LOST SUBMARINE.

The Admiralty's apparatus being insufficient, it has surrendered the salvage of the A3 submarine to the Anglo-Italian Salvage Company, all the English companies being in full work.
STEAMER IN DISTRESS. Received 13, 12.10 a.m. Las Palmas, February 12 Several steamers left on Saturday afternoon to help the liner Australia, which radiographed that she was disabled and in great danger north of Las Palmas.
BANK DEFRAUDED. Received 12, IUO p.m. _ Rome, February 12. The Bank of Naples has been defrauded of £32,000 sterling by means of genuine cheque forms, augmented by the aid of chemicals and a perforating machine. Cheques were simultaneously passed at Turin, Florence and Rome There is no trace of the forgers.
TEMPERANCE TEACHING. Received 13, 12.30 a.m.
Melbourne, February 12. On Saturday a deputation asked Mr Flowers for more effective scientific teaching on temperance in schools. The Minister replied that to some extent temperance was already on the syllabus. He would not allow members of the Good Templar Lodges to visit the schools, but the question of appointing qualified men from the department might be considered.
WIRELESS: NO PUBLIC BUSINESS. Received 13, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, February 12. The first day the wireless station wa&, open to the public no business was received.
