In the Supreme Court, Patrick McAfferty, an elderly cabdriver, who was found guilty on Monday of assaulting another cabdriver, came up for sentence. The assault consisted in kicking his opponent in the jaw and fracturing the same. The Chief Justice imposed a fine of £25. Palmerston N., Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, before SJir [Robert tout, Lewis Bo water was acquitted on a charge of a breach of the Bankruptcy Act by having made a false statement of his affairs to obtain credit of £590 l'ss 6d from Abraham and Williams, Ltd. TIMARU SESSIONS. Timaru, Last Night. At the Supreme Court W. N. Clausen was acquitted on a charge of stealing a bicycle in October, 1910. No evidence was offered on a charge of theft of clothes at the same time. Accused swore he bought the bicycle and swag together on the road. P. J. Cowan was acquitted on a charge of attempting an illegal operation. The judge directed the jury that it was unsafe to convict on a woman's evidence lacking corroboration. Thre discharges from bankruptcy were granted, and two divorce decrees were granted,. namely, Ritson v. Ritson (Ashburton) ■, drunkenness, failure to support, and cruelty, and HaTdcastle v. Hardcastle, desertion. Ciyil cases will be commenced" to-morrow. One is a suit against the Land Board, plaintiff claiming that at a ballot for Mackenzie runs one of them ought to have been allotted to him, because the one who got it was not present to pay his deposit.
