William Sturt, a miner, employed at Huntley, met with a serious accident while blasting logs in a drain near his home through a charge of gelignite going off before he was able to get clear. His right hand was badly shattered, and both his eyes so seriously injured that it is feared he will lose the sight of one, it not both. He was removed to Wajkato Hospital, where four fingers have been amputated. \ A BOY DROWNED. Gore, Last Night. \ David Gaudion, the eight-year-old so* ! of G. G. The inquest on the quarry accident closed yesterday with the evidence' oi ' Clark, engineer, which added nothing new. The Coroner returned an opes verdict. Hfc said'gross neglect had-ieen ' shown by Calvert (foreman) and Hayes.' (laborer), the former for not seeing everything was right, and Hayes for not drawing attention to the fuse beinir too short.
