IRONSAND WORKS.
A START MADE. THE COMPANY'S INTENTIONS. As forecasted in the News last week a start has, been made with the erection of works for the purpose of working the ironsand deposits. Seme interesting information relative to the company's intentions was gleaned by a News reporter in an interview with Mr. D. Berry, who is acting agent for the Paparoa Iron Ore Co., Ltd., of Christchurch, on Saturday afternoon. The company, in which the late Sir Alfred Cadman, Mr. Berry and some two others were interested, sold out their Interests to the above company, who have requested Mr. Berry to act for them. He laughinly remarked to the reporter ,-that he had "turned the first sod" on Friday morning at 7.30 by putting men on to cl«ar and level part of the five-acre section tfacing the Spotswood road; opposite No. 3 petroleum well. It is intended aa soon as the timber comes to hand to erect a workshop 60ft by 22ft, with a small but modern blast furnace at one end, This, when the plans come to hand and the larger plant is erected, will, be required for experimental purposes. It is intended- to procure a brick-mak-ing machine for the dual purpose of making briquettes of ironsand, etc., and when not required for this will make bricks for the main buildings. Al6 b.h.p engine will also be provided, and these-with a, drying shed for bricks will require a large area of buildings to house them. It w also intended to erect a store, probably 100 ft by 40ft, to store the plant as it arrives and protect it from the weather. _ i ... . This is all that Mr. Berry can state* at present, but he told our, reporter that he would keep the public posted from time to time.
