PETROLEUM NEWS.
XO. 5 <BORE LIKELY TO STRIKE OIL. Events in connection with the wellsinking operations at the Taranaki Petroleum Company's works at Moturoa are likely to take an important turn before the week is out. Drilling at No. 5 bore was continued yesterday, and, as the result of two days' work, the well has gone down between 70 and 80 feet. Yesterday afternoon a News reporter was. informed officially that there was a decided improvement in the formation; Mr. Keith and his men are working night and day. At noon to-day the well was down to 2105 feet, and if anticipations are realised oil will be reached at a much lesser depth than in the case of the other wells on the company's field. The Inglewood Oil Company have recently acquired the boring rights on the property of Mr. K. Skinner, adjoining the present Moturoa oilfield, being about ten chains at the back of No. 2 bore.
