INTER-CLUB SWIMMING CONTESTS.
By Telegraph—Press, Association. Auckland, Last Night. The first of the .interclub swimming contests between tlue Sydney and the Waitemata clubs was decided to-night at the Albert street baths. Hundreds of spectators had to be away, the building •being full. The swimming was of a high class and the programme, which included a number of handicap/ events, provided excellent finishes. ; In the 440 yards scratch- inter-dub race, M. E. Qhampion lowered iiis New Zealand recordff om' smin 64 3-ssec # tain 48sec. This event was won bys, Dhampion (Waitemata), with Wilson [Waitemata) second, three yards away, tnd L. Boardman (Bydney) third.
Sydney won the 540 yards relay ract These were,-the only two inter-clul scratch races. The others will be decided at two more carnivals during the week. Miss Durack, Australian Jady champion, won the ladies' handicap 36 yards in 20 4-ssec.
