THE SPRING SHOW.

TO BE HELD IN THE AUTUMN. An important decision was come to by the Taranaki Agricultural Society last evening by the passing of a motion substituting an autumn show in place of the present two days winter show. Speaking in favor of the proposal, the chairman of the meeting (Mr. Arabury) said it had been before the committee for very many years. Continuing, lie said that almost fevery exhibitor at the last spring show had approached the secretary (Mr. A. Cliff) in regard to making the change. The disabilities of the present date were caused through early spring being the middle of the planting season, the flush of the milk season, the stud season, and the fact that more often than not bad weather Was encountered. In autumn, however, the conditions would just be the reverse. The motion giving effect to the proposal was moved by Mr. A. W. SVood, and seconded by Mr. H. J. Joll, after it had been generally decided to make number of days of the autumn show a separate question. SOME OPPOSITION. While not opposing the motion, ijr, 11. Okey, M.P., sought to show that everything was not in favor of the change. To his mind spring was the time for the sheep. A voice: "We are not in a sheep district." Mr. Okey continued that in autumn they would not catch the man who travelled from one show to another. The secretary mentioned that at all | outside shows he had visited lie had made it his business to find out whether ! it would be profitable to run ail autumn show at New Plymouth. As a result, he felt certain that if a show took place on the dates suggested we would have exhibitors from all over the island. Another speaker spoke of the difficulty in securing judges at the spring show.' The motion, although not unanimous, was carried without dissent. On the chairman's suggestion it was agreed to delegate tlie matter of fixing/ the number of days of the show to the committee. •
