THE BRITISH ARMY.
WEAPONS NOT OBSOLETE. STATEMENT BY WAR LORD. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 29, 10 p.m. London, January 29. Lord ITaldane, speaking at Gateshead and replying to Mr. Bona r Law, said the latter's references to the obsolete weapons of the British Rrmy was due to a casual remark of Lord Roberts', who had no opportunity of studying at close quarters the new Howitzer, which was the finest in the world, and the field gun was the best except the French Territorial field gun, which was slightly heavier, but for most purposes it was as good as the German regular field gun. He hoped the new infantry rifle would prove the best in the world. The supply of horses had been greatly increased. The War Office was introducing changes in the mechanical transport department.
