KEEP TO THE RIGHT.
To the Editor. Sir,—During the past few weeks your columns have contained articles and letters with reference to the shortcomings of the town, and the-writers have, been suggesting that New Plymouth should wake up and bring itself into line with other places of similar size. There are two instances where improvements might be made, and as there is a long list the public might n.s well get them all at once. In any town of importance where there is considerable traffic on the footpaths like there is in Devon street on many occasions, people have been oducated to keep to the right, and thus be allowed to get along without being bumped and getting the ends of umbrellas and walking sticks caught in their clothes. Some people meander along in the crowd as if they had the space of a ten-acre paddock, and this' does not allude to country people only. If the Borough Council had notices to that effect, and the attention of tlie police drawn to it, I am sure it would be a much desired improvement. Another point is in which the queues are formed in the theatre. The people get three, four and five deep, no kind of order, and struggle ,t? get -to.the ticket, office, a't the same time passing harsh remarks. If one or two policemen were present, and insisted on them forming two deep, and kept an eye on the jostlcrs, there would be order and more comfort for those who cannot afford to book seats. It is done in other places; why not in New Plymouth?—l am, etc.. ADVANCE.
