A DISTANCE RECORD. By Cable—Preae Associatim—Copyright Sydney, January 26. The wireless operator of the steamer Mantua, while outside Melbourne, received Bignals from Jask, in the Persian Gulf, 0249 nautical miles away, a record distance.
THE AWANUI STATION. By Telegraph-—Press Association. Whangarei, Yesterday. The preliminary operations for the construction of the northern wireless station at Awanui will commence next week. It is expected that work will be in full swing in three weeks' time, and will last about twelve months before preparations to receive the 400 ft. tower are completed.
