The third and. concluding day's racing of the Wellington Racing Club's summer ; meeting took place in line weather to- , day A few light showers fell during the early part of the morning, but had no effect on the going, which was bril- , liant The attendance was fair and tne betting brisk. On the last event over £SOOO was invested. Soma good xacine was witnessed, the fight for second honors in the Summer Handicap being very fine, five horses finishing almost 1* a line. The two-year-old event again went to Styx, the son of Achilles, the Hon. J. D. Ormond's Birkenhead nlly Glade filling second place. The Highden stable did well at the meeting, securing seven wins. The tote figures for the day were £25,549 10s, as against £lb,;Jli 10s for the corresponding day last year, making a total for the three days of £83,316, as compared wiifh £52,004 for last summer meeting. Results:— Wallaceville Welter Handicap, of 100 sovs; 6 furlongs— Highden's Mallard, 3 yrs (C. Browne) 7.7, 1; Beacon 9.0, 2; St. Petersburg 8.10, 3. Also started: Ceylon, Indra, Lady Nolan and Blend 7 7 Lady Nolan was first out, but died away in the straight, Mallard going to the front and winning by a length. Time, lmin lfis€C. Melrose Welter Handicap, of 200 sovs; 7 furlongs.—Highden's Bronze, 3yrs (A. Olliver) 9.5, 1; St. Felix 8.2, 2; Longstep 79 3. Also started: Effort 9.3, Golden Loop 8.11, Patriotic 8.10, Merry Frank and Idealism 8.4, Royal Marine 8. r ' Avarice 7.9, Negative 7.7.' Gray) 7.10, 1; Glade 8.6, 2; Peroneal 7.10, 3. j Also started: Stepney 8.0, Merton 7.9, Otukura 7.7, Imagination 7.0, Daybreak and Obligant 6.13, Elmore 6.7. Glade made most of the running, Styx taking the lead i* the • straight. Won by a head. Time, 49 l-sspc. Summer Handicap, of 500 sovs; 1 mile—E. J. Watt's Ireland, 3yrs (B. Deeley) 7.10, 1; Eauroa 6.13, 2; Miscount 8.0, 3. Also started: Equitas 9.9, Nyland 8.11, Undecided 8.10, Merrivonia 8.1, Sea Queen 7.2, Khamsin 6.13, j Eclogue 6.11, British Maid and Lady Volley 6.7. British Maid got left at the post. Ireland went to the front immediately and at the back was followed by Nyland, Khamsin and Equitas. At the six furlong post the order was the same, except that Equitas had gone up to seeond pla<;e. Entering the straight the positions were still the same, with Kauroa coming fast. Ireland won by a length and a half, the second and third 1 horses, with Nyland, Equitas and Undecid«d, being nearly in a line. Time, lmin 40 2-ssec.
Selling Plate, of 150 sovs; 0 furlongs. —Middle Park Co.'s All Guns, aged (Griffen) 8.8, 1; Bally Shannon 8.0, 2; Big Blast 8.0, 3. Also started: Laius, Kingswell, Palestine and Aema 8.0, Papatire and Biddy 7.7.' . All Guns won all the way by a length and a half. Time, lmin I<> 2-ssec. The winner was sold to J. Waiwera for lOßgns. Kaitoke Handicap, of 100 sovs; 5 furlongs—A. J. Foxward's Sanguinary, 3yrs (A. Olliver) 8.9, 1; Emma 7.10, 2; Makara 8.10, 3. Also started: Gay Lawless 8.1, Lady Kilcheran 8.0, Wee Ro»e 7.6, Aratiatia 7.4, Kirkby 7.2, Inveran 6.10, Sir Donald and Abercoed 6.7. him led the ■ field to the distance. Then Sanguinary went to the front and won by half a length. Time, lmin 2 l-saee. Consolation. Handicap, *f 800 •»v§; 1 % miles—H. Whitney's Odessa, 4yrs (C. Emerson) 6.10, 1; Midnight Sun 9.0, 2; Masterpiece 9.0, 3. Also started: Coromandel 8.9, Mendip 8.7, Flingot 7.9, Splash 7.2. Odessa went out early and was followed by Coromandel and Mendip. At the six furlong post ,Odessa was two lengths clear of the field. Then came Mendip, Coromandel, Masterpiece and Midnight Sun. Entering the straight the order was the same, Midnight Sun going up to second place opposite the stand. Won by a length and a half. Time, 2min 9sec.
City Handicap, of 300 sovs; 6 furlongs.—J. Buckley's Dearest, 4yrs (B. Deeley) 8.3, 1; Full Rate 8.7, 2; Royal Scotch 8.5, 3. Also started: Gladiole 9.1, Gipsy Belle 8.8, Hermia 7.13, Kohinoor 7.0, Outward 6.12, Deploy and Purakau 6.7. Outward made most of the running, being displaced in the straight by Dearest, who won comfortably by a length. Gladiole was fourth and Kohinoor fifth. Time, lmin 15sec.
