THE HOME RULE QUESTION.

ULSTER'S INSOLENCE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, January 23. Mr. Herbert Samuel, PostmasterGen. nil, speaking at Redcar, said that had Lister's intolerance prevailed in England no Empire would have existed. No colony, dependency or protectorate would have tolerated a rule so oppressive and arrogant. Unionists have engaged Ulster Hall for the 7th, and it is rumored that they intend to pack it with Orange stalwarts who will refuse to leave. CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. CONSERVATIVE THREATS VIEWED SERIOUSLY. , Received 24, 11 p.m. London, January 24. The Ulster Liberal Association states that Mr. Winston Churchill's visit is the outcome of a long-standing invitation. Members, of the Association have absorbed all the seating accommodation, and there ife non 6 available for the public. As melnbers of the Association are mostly Protestants, the idea that it is a Nationalist gathering is ridiculous. The Association's committee adopted a resolution expressing its determination defend'their constitutional rights to hold meetings against forces of lawless-, ■ess. Sir Edward Carson, in his speech at Manchester, thought a responsible Minister should have outlined the Irish constitution. He believed the Government did not know themselves what Home Rule was going to be. Every line they wrote had to be edited by Mr. Redmond, who, in turn, was, edited by a greater force behind. Mr. Hobhouse, speaking at East Bristol, said the Conservative leaders' speeches in Lancashire in the anti-Home Rule campaign contained threats which the Government could only view seriously.
