TURF TOPICS. 5 (By "Moturoa.") The Wellington Racing Club's summer . meeting will be concluded at Trentham ) to-day, the principal events being tke Simmer Handicap (one mile), City Han- i dicap (six furlongs), and Consolation Handicap (mile and a quarter). The acceptances are quite numerous enough to ' ensure a fitting finale to a record meeting. There was plenty of Taranaki money for Alluar each day at Foxton. On Saturday the favorite had no chance with Captain, who jumped in great style and ran in a three-lengths winner. On the Itcond day there was only a head between the pair, and Alluar, though defeated, put up his best performance to date in getting so close in such a smartly run race. The mile and a half was left behind in 2min. 28 l-ssec. Undecided's Cup was one of the easiest won races at Trentham on Saturday. Just when the favorites, Midnight Sun and Coromandel, looked like fighting out a good finish, the outsider came with a strong run, smothering the opposition, and won very easily by a couple ol . lengths. The disappointments of the | race were Merrivonia, Mendip, Aber- ' brothock and Patriotic, who finished a long way back. Undecided's victory i was a great let-off for the double-layers as the combination, Midnight' Sun Nyland, was solidly supported everywhere. - ' '"'-"' Ineuru is reputedly fast over four fyrrlongs, and it was no surprise to'see the ' public rush. Miu S. Brerton's horse ' lirst day at Foxton. The favorite was in command at the distance, and probably should have won, but slowing down in the last bit Eminent streaked up and won by a head. On the second day no mistake was made, and Ineuru gathered in the Telephone Hack Handicap in good style. . ;■ . Wooloomooloo, who has /been doing i station work at Te Mahanga, is to be put into work again shortly in view of winter racing. In order to attract outside horses the Patea Racing Club offers stabling free to visiting gee-gees. Vocation injured his hocks the other day, and it is reckoned that the colt j will not be fit to race for about twelve J months. 1 Kopu is now in steady work at Hastings, and looks big and well after his spell. , Con the Shaughraun made a big bid for victory in the Herrington Welter at Foxton, and led right up to within a few strides of the post, where Seaton • Dale, finishing at a great pace, drew level and beat him home by a narrow margin. Overtime was well fancied by his connections for the Flying, and after running prominently for a few furlongs dropped out in the straight. The Wanganui horse cut out six furlongs in Imin. 17sec. before leaving for Foxton, but! his displays there were very bad, and his party have just about'given up hope of ever winning a race with him. y Midian scored very comfortably in the Foxton Cupj from Julian. The'latter found the distance a bit far, and' scored in the mile and a distance race on .Monday. Before leaving, Julian beat,. Gold Circle over a mile, and his success was anticipated by a big crowd of Hawke's Bay punters. . » , . Trainer George Price cannot go 'wrong ! lately, and so far at Trentham has won five races, with Blakeney (2), Nyland, Ermingarde and Bronze. The Highden horses are well, and will have plenty of followers to-day. The defeat of Prince Soult in the Wei- ] lington Stakes was a, facer for followers of form. , On Auckland form Ermingarde was little, fancied, and the price he paid ! was a good one for a bearer of the i •Highden colors. Probably the reverse ' style of running upset Prince Soult's I chances, but before leaving Ellerslie he i was reported to be off his food and be- ' low himself. , ' i
