A SEAMAN DROWNED. By Telegraph —I'ress Association. ■ Wanganui, Last Night. A seaman named Edward Thomas Mulland; when going aboard his vessel,, th« Maroro, about 10 o'clock last evening, fell between the vessel and the wharf. A companion dived for him, but could not find the missing man, who was not found till this morning ,by the police. He bore an abrasion on his forehead, and evidently hit a stringer of the wharf. At the time of the fatality the man was under the influence of drink., An inquest was held this afternoon. The victim recently came from Wellington to join th« vessel. He is 33 years of age, but whither married or unmarried is unknown

Shortly after 5 o'clock this morning, Miss Janet McAndrew, 60 year* of age, a servant employed by Dr. Gilmer, waa discovered in an unconscious condition, I lying in the passage of> the house. Dr. McGavin was summoned, and on it being noticed that a strong smell of lysol was about her, the doctor used a stomachpump for an hour, but the woman did not completely.'. recover She was sent to the hospital in a very low condition, and it is considered there is little hope of her recovery. Dr. M«Gavin has no doubt that a large-dose oi lysol, mixed with ether, was, taken'by the woman. There was no one else in the house at the time, and before Miss McAndrew collapsed she was able to call out for assistance.

THE,MAY QUEEN FATALITY. Thames, Saturday. At the inquiry into the May Queen mining fatality a verdict was returned that no blame was attachable to anyone and that the part played by Crowley and James was deserving of high recognition by the Humane Society. It also added a rider that the stopping and re-starting of the Roots Mower, used to ventilate, the deep levels, should be notified to all the mines in connection therewith.
