Gale In Britain.
NUMEROUS SHIPWRECKS. LARGE STEAMER TURNS TURTLE. By (XWe—Ppess v Association—CopyTijjfcl London, January 18. A gale in Britain caused numerous fatalities and much damage to harbor works and shipping. ' A German steamer was wrecked on the Goodwin Sandi. The Ramsgate lifeboat gallantly rescued the crew of twenty. ft large unknown steamer was seen to« turn turtle and founder at Petershafd, Scotland. The terrific gale made it Impossible to help the crew. There hive been other wrecks on all parts of the coast. * HEAVY LIST OF FATALITIES. A lifeboat followed the steamer Wisto4 Hall for five hours. The tide was like a malestrom, and dashed the Wisto4 Hall on to the Bulls of Buchan Roiks. Four men, including the captaa, were saved, but fifty-three, mostly were drowned. j SERVICE DISORGAffrSED. 'pie snowfall in the Midlands lasted hours. Trains have been seridelayed. Tons of salt were used foif thawing purposes. The weight of ice'boating the wires in many localities dragged the telegraph poles down. Ipfteen thousand miners have been thrown idle at Cannock Chase owing to difficulty in moving railway trucks.
