THE EMPIRE THEATRE.
THE KING IN INDIA.
The proprietor of the Empire Theatre has certainly a decided faith in the future of New Plymouth, and also the future of living pictures. It is probably a record for a town of this size to have a new building specially built for picture showing, such as the Empire, and also fitted with the very latest in electrical machinery. Not satisfied with showing the pictures only, Mr. Saunders' enterprise has moved above the rut, the first step .being the engagement of an expert in every branch of the moving picture business. Mr Brandon Haughton is one of highest salaried experts in the Australasian colonies, and his engagement will undoubtedly prove a distinct advantage to the whole of the Taranaki district, as the .films produced .by the Empire Picture Company will be shown in a number of towns outside the province, and will certainly prove a fine advertising medium, especially with the interest that is at present centred on Taranaki. New pictures will be shown each week, the changes of programme occurring on Wednesdays and Saturdays. To-night a complete new list of films will be shown, amongst the number being: "Arrival 'of the King and Queen at Bombay," latest "Pathe Gazette," "Manners and Customs in Malaysia," "Cultivation of Mamico." The dramatic subjects are "dios and Phyletes" (Cine Ronia), "Goanna of Bragan)?a," "The Latest Friend),' land 1 "The Sawmill Hero." A highly humorous comedy 1000 ft. in length is entitled "A Deal in Indians." "The Victors" is an interesting vaudeville picture, whilst the comic element is supplied by "The Diving Girl" and "Dinner Time." On Thursday the Empire Picture Company will take a moving picture of the East End picnic. The four Westinghouse electric fans kept the theatre delightfully cool last evening, despite the oppressively hot night. '
